Brisbane State High School was founded in 1913 and evolved into Queensland’s first academic state secondary school, shaping generations of students in the heart of South Brisbane. What began as a small co educational institution operating from the old Normal School gradually expanded through the early decades of the twentieth century before settling permanently beside Musgrave Park in 1925. The development of the landmark red brick building in the 1920s gave the campus its enduring character and marked the beginning of its long association with the city’s academic and cultural life.

As enrolments grew, the school broadened its curriculum and facilities, adding specialised science laboratories, arts spaces, sports complexes and dedicated teaching buildings across two main campuses. The school now educates more than three thousand students across Years 7 to 12 and reflects the diversity and scale of modern Brisbane.
