About Wynberg

Wynberg Boys’ High School is a public English-medium boys’ school in Cape Town, founded in 1841 by John McNaughton. Regarded as one of the oldest educational institutions in South Africa, it has grown from a small mixed school in Glebe Cottage to a large, modern campus on the historic Hawthornden Estate. The school’s identity is built on its motto Supera Moras, a long tradition of academic strength and deep historical roots reflected through its museums, archives and annual memorial events honouring Old Boys who served in wartime.

The school offers a broad programme of sport, culture and leadership development. Facilities include multiple rugby fields, tennis and squash courts, a swimming pool, an astro turf and the Jacques Kallis Oval, named after its most famous cricketing alumnus. The music department is one of the strongest in the region, featuring jazz, classical ensembles and a Scottish-influenced pipe band shared with Wynberg Girls’ High School. Wynberg’s alumni network spans Springbok athletes, international cricketers, political figures and cultural contributors, underscoring its reputation as a major Cape Town boys’ school.
