About Waverley

Waverley College is an independent Catholic school for boys in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, operating across two campuses and offering early learning, primary and secondary education. Founded in 1903 by the Christian Brothers, the school began with 20 students in a rented house before expanding rapidly into a purpose built facility on Birrell Street. The college became known for its boarding community from 1938 until the closure of boarding in 1979, and today enrols around 1,400 students from early learning and Years 5 to 12. It operates within Edmund Rice Education Australia and maintains a non selective enrolment policy. The school is a long standing member of the Combined Associated Schools, competing across major sports with significant success in rugby, athletics, swimming and basketball. Waverley also runs a large cadet unit established in 1911 and continues to offer a broad academic and co curricular programme. Alumni, known as Waverlians, include prominent figures in public life, sport, the arts and business.
