About St Peters, Auckland

St Peter’s College is a Catholic secondary school for boys in the Edmund Rice tradition, located in Grafton, Auckland. Established in 1939 as a successor to earlier Catholic schools founded in 1841 and 1857, it is the oldest Catholic boys’ school in Auckland still operating on its original site. The college serves students from Years 7 to 13 and has been staffed for much of its history by the Christian Brothers, who played a central role in its development. The school occupies land donated by the Outhwaite family and was integrated into the state system in 1982.

The college offers both NCEA and Cambridge International Examinations and draws students from across Auckland. It places strong emphasis on academic achievement, music, cultural engagement and sport, with particular traditions in rugby, rowing and softball. St Peter’s also operates a comprehensive house system and maintains close links with its Christian Brothers heritage. The campus has expanded substantially since the 1930s and includes modern facilities such as the Brother Wilkes Technology Block, the Sports Complex and the Chapel of St Peter opened in 2020.
