St Patrick's College, Silverstream is a state integrated Catholic boys’ secondary school in Upper Hutt, New Zealand, serving students from Years 9 to 13. It was founded in 1931 by the Society of Mary when the original St Patrick’s College in Wellington was intended to relocate to a larger boarding site, although both schools ultimately continued as separate institutions. Silverstream occupies a seven hectare campus near the Hutt River and remains closely linked to its Wellington counterpart through shared heritage, traditions and an Old Boys’ Association. The school enrols around 740 students and operates within the state integrated system in partnership with the Catholic Schools Board and the New Zealand Government.
Silverstream has a long standing tradition of Marist education and an active boarding history, although it now functions primarily as a day school with a smaller boarding facility. The college fields competitive teams in rugby, cricket, athletics, football, hockey and basketball and competes in the annual McEvedy Shield athletics event alongside its brother school and two other Wellington colleges. The school’s history includes both notable achievements and documented cases of historic abuse involving former clergy, which have been examined in public inquiries. Alumni have gone on to careers across public life, including politics, the judiciary, academia, the arts, journalism and international sport.
