About St Patricks

St Patrick’s College is a Catholic boys’ school located on the waterfront at Shorncliffe in Brisbane. Founded in 1952 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, the college is part of Edmund Rice Education Australia and now educates around 1400 students from Years 5 to 12. Guided by its motto Certa Bonum Certamen (“Fight the Good Fight”), the school blends academic ambition with community values, service, and pastoral care.

The campus centres around Morven, a historic nineteenth-century residence that now serves as the college’s administrative hub and is recognised as a local heritage site. Over the decades, St Patrick’s has expanded with purpose-built facilities, including a swimming pool, performing arts spaces, middle school buildings, and the college’s main sporting complex at Curlew Park.

St Patrick’s is a member of the Associated Independent Colleges (AIC) and fields competitive teams across rugby union, rugby league, cricket, football, cross country, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and other sports. The college has achieved multiple AIC premierships, including titles in rugby union, rugby league, cricket, and cross country. Esports has also become an emerging strength, with the college winning the Acer High Schools Cup in Rocket League.

Co-curricular life is a major part of the school identity. Students take part in music ensembles, debating, drama productions, theatre sports, film, dance, visual arts, and the college’s large-scale house Showcase event. St Patrick’s also collaborates with neighbouring schools and theatre companies for major musical and drama productions.

The college community has produced notable alumni across sport, law, public service, and the arts. Former students include Wallaby Drew Mitchell, NRL players Dylan Napa and Jayson Bukuya, Super Rugby players Jesse Mogg and Ryan Smith, and former judge Tony Fitzgerald, who chaired the landmark Fitzgerald Inquiry.

With a coastal setting, a strong Catholic tradition, and a broad academic and extracurricular programme, St Patrick’s College remains one of Brisbane’s leading boys’ schools.
