Saint Kentigern College is a leading private co-educational Presbyterian secondary school located in Pakuranga, Auckland. Founded in 1953, the school is operated by the Saint Kentigern Trust Board and has grown into one of New Zealand’s largest independent schools. It offers both day and boarding options and currently educates more than 2300 students.
The college follows a unique structure. Years 7 and 8 are taught in the Middle College, with single-gender classes continuing through Years 9 and 10. Students then join a fully co-educational Senior College for Years 11 to 13. The school motto is Fides Servanda Est (“The faith must be kept”).
Saint Kentigern is an IB World School, offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme alongside the national curriculum for senior students. The campus features modern academic facilities, specialist centres, and a broad co-curricular programme across arts, culture, service, and sport.
Rugby is a cornerstone of school life. The college has produced several All Blacks and professional players across Super Rugby, the NRL, and European competitions. The 1st XV has a long and decorated history, including multiple Auckland 1A titles, a National Top 4 Championship in 2012, and a Sanix Youth World Invitational title in 2013.
Students are placed into one of six houses, each named after Scottish Presbyterian martyrs, and compete throughout the year in a variety of academic and sporting events.
Saint Kentigern alumni include national athletes, business leaders, artists, and politicians, notably current New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and All Black prop Tamaiti Williams.
With strong academic pathways, world-class facilities, and a history of excellence in sport and culture, Saint Kentigern College maintains a prominent position within New Zealand’s independent school sector.
