About Nudgee College

St Joseph’s Nudgee College, founded in 1891 by the Christian Brothers, is one of Queensland’s most historic boys schools and a major boarding institution in the Edmund Rice tradition. Originally created to house the growing number of boarders from St Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace, the Boondall campus quickly developed into a flagship school in Brisbane. Its landmark Italian Renaissance buildings, opened from 1891 onwards, form one of the most recognisable school precincts in the state and are listed on the Queensland Heritage Register.

Over more than a century Nudgee has grown into a large day and boarding school with strong academic programmes, specialist facilities and a wide co curricular offering. The campus includes a chapel, performance spaces, modern learning centres, science labs, recording studios, extensive sporting fields and Olympic standard swimming pools. As a founding member of the GPS Association, Nudgee has a long tradition of excellence in rugby, cricket, rowing, athletics and many other sports, with strong participation across all year levels.

Today Nudgee educates around 1,600 boys from Year 5 to Year 12, including a sizeable boarding community that draws students from across Queensland, Australia and overseas. The school maintains a well established reputation in academics, sport, music and character education, supported by a strong Old Boys network. With its scale, heritage, facilities and Edmund Rice values, Nudgee remains one of the most prominent and influential boys schools in Queensland.
