About Newbridge

Newbridge College is a long-established co-educational independent school located on the banks of the River Liffey in Newbridge, County Kildare. Founded in 1852 by the Dominican Order, it has evolved from a small boys’ boarding school into a modern day school with close to a thousand pupils and a distinctive Dominican identity. The campus is split across both sides of the river, linking historic buildings with newer academic and sporting facilities.

The school offers the full Irish secondary curriculum, including Junior Cycle, Transition Year and Leaving Certificate programmes. Academic results are consistently strong, and Newbridge regularly features near the top of Kildare’s school performance rankings, with a high proportion of students progressing to third-level study each year. Subject choice is broad and supported by modern science, technology and creative arts facilities, along with structured study options for senior learners.

Rugby is central to school life and Newbridge holds a respected place within Leinster schools rugby. The college has won the Senior Cup three times, most recently in 2020, and has produced several provincial and international players. Hockey, athletics, equestrian sport, canoeing, soccer, basketball and GAA also form an active part of the sporting programme, supported by grass fields, indoor facilities and two floodlit all-weather surfaces.

The school remains closely tied to its Dominican heritage, reflected in its pastoral approach, house traditions and the presence of the Priory and Church at the centre of campus. Cultural activities, music, debating and community events are embedded in the school year, giving learners opportunities beyond academics and sport.

Today Newbridge College positions itself as a high-performing, values-driven school with strong academic outcomes, a prominent rugby tradition and a well-rounded co-curricular offering. Its long history, distinctive riverside setting and continued Dominican stewardship give it a clear and recognisable identity within Leinster education.
