About Marist College, Ashgrove

Marist College Ashgrove is one of Brisbane’s most established boys’ schools, operating as a large day and boarding Catholic institution in the suburb of Ashgrove. Founded in 1940 by the Marist Brothers, the college has grown into a prominent Year 5 to 12 campus with more than 1700 students and a strong reputation across academics, sport and character formation. The school’s ethos is shaped by the values of Saint Marcellin Champagnat, reflected in an emphasis on service, discipline and community involvement.

Academically, the college offers a full Queensland curriculum supported by specialist learning centres, modern science and technology facilities and an extensive cultural programme that includes drama, visual arts and music. Senior students progress through a structured pathway aimed at consistent ATAR results, with additional support provided through tutoring, study programmes and pastoral guidance. Boarding is an important part of school life, housing students from regional Queensland, the Pacific and broader Australia, and contributing significantly to the school’s identity.

Sport is a major strength of Marist Ashgrove. The college competes in the Associated Independent Colleges competition and has a long record of AIC success across rugby, cricket, athletics, cross country, swimming, basketball and other codes. Rugby remains one of its flagship programmes, with strong squad depth, competitive First XV campaigns and a history of producing provincial and national players. The campus includes multiple rugby and cricket ovals, a grandstand overlooking McMahon Oval, an aquatic centre, indoor and outdoor courts and a specialised cricket training complex.

The school’s 26 hectare campus combines traditional buildings with large open fields, boarding residences, performing arts venues and a range of co curricular spaces. Daily life is organised through a house system that supports pastoral care, interhouse competition and community identity. Students participate in a wide set of opportunities including service projects, outdoor education and leadership development.

Marist College Ashgrove stands today as a well resourced, values driven boys’ school with a strong academic programme, a nationally recognised sporting culture and a long standing presence in Queensland education.
