Feilding High School is a co educational secondary school located in the town of Feilding in the Manawatū region of New Zealand. Serving students from Year 9 to Year 13, it is the community’s main secondary school and offers both day and boarding options. The school traces its roots to 1921 when it opened as Feilding Technical High School and later became known as Feilding Agricultural High School, reflecting the strong rural character of the surrounding region.
The early development of the school was closely linked to the agricultural industries of Manawatū. Its facilities and curriculum supported technical and vocational learning, and the foundations established during this period continue to influence the school’s identity. In 2000 the name was updated to FAHS Feilding High School to reflect the wider scope of its academic and co curricular programmes. Today the school provides a comprehensive education that aims to combine tradition with modern teaching and learning.
The school’s motto, Kia Toa Kia Ngākaunui, encourages students to approach their studies and activities with courage and ambition. Feilding High School maintains a structured pastoral system through its eight houses, which help create a sense of belonging and provide opportunities for participation across cultural, sporting and leadership activities. The school roll has grown steadily and now includes more than 1600 students, with a significant number identifying as Māori and contributing to the cultural diversity of the school.
Feilding High School offers a broad curriculum supported by specialist teaching spaces, classroom facilities and a well established boarding hostel that provides a home for students from across the region. Academic pathways are complemented by vocational options, reflecting the school’s historical focus and the needs of the wider community. The agricultural legacy remains visible in elements of its learning programmes and campus traditions.
Sport is an important part of school life. Feilding High School has a strong presence across rugby, cricket, hockey, athletics and other codes, regularly competing against leading schools in the region. The school has produced highly regarded rugby players who have represented Manawatū, New Zealand’s professional teams and the national sides in both the men’s and women’s game. Many of its alumni have achieved success in sport at provincial, national and international level.
The school’s community connections are strengthened through its cultural events, performing arts activities, house competitions and long standing annual traditions. Students are encouraged to take part in leadership roles, community service and a wide range of co curricular opportunities that support personal development and confidence.
After more than a century of educating young people, Feilding High School continues to play a central role in its region. Its blend of academic programmes, rural heritage and strong community values provides students with a stable, supportive environment in which to prepare for further study, employment and future ambitions.
