About Bedford School

Founded in 1552, Bedford School is one of the oldest independent boys’ schools in the United Kingdom, located in the historic county town of Bedford, England. It forms part of the Harpur Trust, a group of four well-established schools in the area, and offers education for boys aged 7 to 18 across its Preparatory and Upper Schools.

The school combines a strong academic tradition with a broad co-curricular programme, providing opportunities in sport, music, drama, outdoor education and leadership. Boarding and day options are available, with a close-knit house system that supports pastoral care and student development throughout a boy’s time at the school.

Bedford School is particularly well known for its sporting culture, especially in rugby, rowing, cricket and hockey, alongside a long-standing chapel choir and active academic societies. With modern facilities set within a historic campus, the school aims to develop confident, well-rounded young men prepared for university and life beyond school.
