Glenwood Rugby Festival

The Glenwood Rugby Festival is Durban's great gathering of depth, hosted each autumn by Glenwood High School and built on a philosophy that sets it apart: this is a festival for whole rugby programmes, not just first teams. Across six days of play the fixture list spans U14, U15 and U16 age groups alongside 2nd XVs and 1st XVs, giving hundreds of boys at every level a festival stage of their own.

The matchmaking is the festival's signature. Glenwood deliberately draws sides that would seldom cross paths in an ordinary season, with KwaZulu-Natal's powerhouses joined by visitors from the Free State, Mpumalanga and Gauteng, touring sides from Zimbabwe, and invitation and select XVs assembled for the occasion. The result is six days of genuinely fresh rugby, new rivalries sparked annually on the fields below the Berea.

The hosts bring pedigree few can match. Glenwood fields some thirty teams and has been the leading producer of KZN Craven Week representatives this century, with a steady stream of SA Schools players and Springboks tracing their roots to the school. Their festival reflects that same conviction: that the strength of a rugby school is measured not by one team but by all of them.
