Sydney Boys High School is a government funded, academically selective secondary school for boys located at Moore Park in inner Sydney. Founded in 1883 as the first state high school in New South Wales, it operates under the New South Wales Department of Education and enrols students in Years 7 to 12. The school is situated on a 3.4 hectare campus adjacent to Sydney Girls High School and forms part of the Port Jackson education area. It has been a member of the Athletic Association of the Great Public Schools of New South Wales since 1906, the only state operated school within the association.
The school has an established reputation for academic achievement and regularly ranks among the leading schools in the Higher School Certificate. It offers a broad curriculum supported by extensive facilities at the Moore Park campus and affiliated sporting sites, including rowing, rifle shooting and athletics venues. Sydney Boys High maintains an active co curricular program in debating, sport, music and cadets, and has produced numerous prominent alumni in public life, including figures in law, politics, science, sport and the arts.
