About Outeniqua

Hoërskool Outeniqua is a large Afrikaans medium co-educational high school in George on the Garden Route. Founded in 1923, the school has grown into one of the Southern Cape’s major academic and sporting institutions, serving more than 1 700 pupils from the town and surrounding region. The campus sits close to the Outeniqua mountains and the coastline, giving the school a strong sense of place within the broader George community.

Academically the school offers an extensive subject range supported by modern teaching facilities and a large staff complement. Outeniqua places strong emphasis on consistent academic performance, learner support and personal development, with leadership and cultural participation forming part of the core school experience. Cultural programmes include music, drama, debating and a wide slate of clubs and societies, each contributing to the school’s community-driven identity.

Sport is a defining pillar of Outeniqua’s profile. The school competes nationally across multiple codes, with rugby, athletics, netball, cricket and hockey forming the main focus. Outeniqua’s rugby programme is particularly well known, producing competitive first teams and age-group sides that regularly face leading schools from across the country. The school’s sporting culture is reinforced through strong coaching structures and broad participation at all levels.

Outeniqua celebrated its centenary in 2023, marking a hundred years of growth, tradition and regional influence. Its alumni network, the Oud-Kwaggas, maintains close links with the school and supports various academic, sport and cultural initiatives.
