Kirkham Grammar School is an independent co-educational day and boarding school in Kirkham, Lancashire. The school traces its origins to a chantry school linked to St Michael’s Church in the thirteenth century and was formally refounded in 1549. It remained on the church grounds for several centuries before relocating to its current Ribby Road campus in 1911. The front range and headmaster’s house from this period are recognised as Grade II listed buildings. Governance of the school has passed through several historical structures, including the Thirty Men of Kirkham and later the Worshipful Company of Drapers, whose long association contributed to the school’s expansion in the early twentieth century.
Kirkham developed as a grammar school and entered the voluntary aided sector in 1944 before returning to full independence in 1979, when it also became co-educational.
